In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
From the inception of man till the end of time, the only Religion that had existed and always will exist is Islam. To understand this statement, we need to understand what Islam is.
What is Islam?
“Islam” is an Arabic word. Its literal meaning is “submission”. Hence, taken from its literal meaning, Islam means to submit to the will of Almighty Allah (God). Today the world knows Islam to be the Religion of Muslims. A Muslim is simply one who submits to the will of Allah.
The first man created by God was Adam عليه الصلاة و السلام (Salutations and Peace be upon him). Adam عليه الصلاة و السلام , his wife and all their offspring worshipped one God.
So the question comes to mind… if this was Islam, then why are there different Religions?
In every time, to every nation, there had been a prophet sent. Each prophet propagated and conveyed the same message to the people of his time. I.e. there is no deity except Almighty Allah alone and none should be worshipped except Him. Almighty Allah in His infinite Wisdom, gave each prophet Divine rules to follow; these sacred laws of Allah were given to these prophets either through scriptures, books or via revelation.
Through the ages, many prophets had come and gone; of them the most famous (to mention a few) were: Nuh (Noah), Ebrahim (Abraham), Ishaak (Isaac),Isma’
Prophet Musa عليه الصلاة و السلام was given the Torah by Almighty Allah; Prophet ‘Isa عليه الصلاة و السلام , the Injeel (Bible) and Prophet Muhammed عليه الصلاة و السلام, the Quran. The fundamental similarity of all these books is the worship of one God (Islam).
The three largest Religions today in the world are Christianity, Judaism and Islam. Christians follow the Bible; Jews follow the Torah and Muslims, the Quran.
So, if all preached Islam, how did the difference occur?
Those who followed the Torah and their Prophet Musa عليه الصلاة و السلامwere called “Jews” and those following the Bible and their Prophet ‘Isaعليه الصلاة و السلام were called “Christians”. These words are English, and in fact never heard by these prophets. The difference came about due to the sacred constitutions given to these prophets by Almighty Allah. Unfortunately, today these great doctrines that once were, remain no more in their pristine form.
The Holy Quran on the other hand, from the very first revelation till this very day remains in its pure form and has not been altered in the least; it still is in the Arabic language with the same meaning. Unlike any other Holy Scripture, The Quran is the only book in the world that is by hearted by its followers; millions the world over have memorised the Holy Quran, verse for verse.
The Quran has been protected by Almighty Allah Himself. Allah states in the Holy Quran:
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ
“Indeed We have revealed the ‘Thikr’ (Quran) and We will surely protect it.” (Surah Hijr v.9)
The next question in mind……How do we know the Quran is the word of Allah (God)?
To find the answer, we must know the origin of the Holy Quran, to whom and when it was revealed.
The Quran was revealed approximately 1420 years ago to the final Messenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammedصلى الله عليه و سلم ; being an Arab, sent to the Arabs, the Quran was revealed in Arabic so as to be easily understood.
The Quran is a miracle. It has been revealed to a Prophet who could not read and write. Unlike the Torah, the Quran did not descend in book-form; instead it came via revelation (I.e. It was taught to prophet Muhammed صلى الله عليه و سلم by the Arch-angel Jibreel (Gabrielle) عليهالصلاة و السلام) and Divine inspiration over a period of 23 years.
What had been a mystery to man until recent times, had been part of the Quran then. To give an example, the Quran beautifully explains of the planets and their orbit in space, the mountains like pegs in the earth, the stars, and the levels of darkness in the ocean, the formation of the embryo in the womb, stories of former prophets and their nations and many of Allah’s splendour and Majesty.
The question that should prick the brain is….. Could a prophet in the middle of the desert know all these events that had only been founded in recent centuries?
Not having scuba-gear or submarines, how could he know of the layers of darkness in the ocean?
Without technology and ultrasound, how could he accurately describe the development of the foetus from a clot of blood to a human being?
Unable to read and write, how could he describe the former prophets, their teachings and their nations?
This could not be a coincidence and it did not happen by chance. This is a clear indication that prophet Muhammed صلى الله عليه و سلم is a prophet of Allah. It also proves that the Quran is the word of Allah and that Islam is the truth.
And Allah knows best
